Caring for your fine furniture is easier than you think.

Cleaning

cleaning wood with a lint free cloth

In most cases dusting regularly with a lint free cloth is all that is needed.

When cleaning is required, a slightly dampened cloth is sufficient. To avoid water spotting, gently dry the wood surface after cleaning.

We do not recommend using silicone polishes or oil soaps on wood furniture. Silicone polishes look dull very quickly, which will require, what else, more silicone polish. These products also interfere with the refinishing process. If cared for properly, your new furniture should not have enough dirt or grease build-up to require an oil soap.

Sunlight

Do not expose your furniture to direct sunlight. UV rays will discolour and damage the wood and its protective finish over time.

Humidity

Humidity is the most important part of the long term life of finer furniture. We carefully construct all of our furniture to allow for natural changes in temperature and humidity. For example, we incorporate features in our solid table tops to allow them to expand in the summer and contract in the winter.

To avoid problems, keep your home's relative humidity between 40% and 60%. Do not place furniture near or on top of heat registers.

Wood can be damaged by extreme levels or changes in temperature and humidity.

Other Protection

To maintain your fine furniture, please ensure you follow these suggestions:

laptop and hot cup of coffee on a wooden table
  • Padding
    • Use cloth, linen or felt under any objects with vinyl or rubber on the bottom (e.g. stereos, telephones, coasters).
  • Heat
    • Do not place anything directly onto your wood furniture that may create extreme temperatures (e.g. cookware, hot pizza boxes, notebook computers or video game systems). Use protective padding under these items to avoid damaging the finish.
    • Hot pizza delivery boxes are the most common item to cause damage to table tops.
    • Placing hot items directly on your table top may cause a white fogging look to the finish which can not be repaired.
  • Table leaves
    • We recommend keeping the leaves in your table as much as possible to help the entire table top age at the same rate.
    • When necessary, store table leaves with the skirt side down on a flat surface and away from heat or direct sunlight to avoid warping or cracking.
  • Protect wood surfaces from candle wax, nail polish remover, and any other products containing solvents as they will damage the furniture's protective finish.
